It will be a blessed relief when the latest twist in the Blues soap revolves around nothing more than a football match on Saturday.
After a week when the boundaries of incredulity have been stretched to the limit, Portsmouth's visit to St Andrew's should provide some normality.
Or will it? There could be more hinging on the game than we might realise.
Throughout, the Blues players have been following events like most supporters - via the media, primarily the pages of the Birmingham Mail.
Footballers often get criticised as a selfish bunch, concerned with number one. But they have been genuinely stunned by Steve Bruce's exit, and dismayed.
Thankfully, Eric Black has remained in situ and has the task of galvanising the troops who would otherwise have been in total disarray.
Black, after speaking to him every day this week, could just be thinking more and more about the top job and less about Wigan Athletic than he is letting on.
And if he was offered it, and accepted, that would be the sensible thing for all concerned. He knows the players, has their respect and there would be continuity.
Also, he would do things slightly differently to Bruce, so there would be some freshness of ideas, even if from a familiar face.
He knows the board and how they work (you can bet he would sort his image rights out sharpish...).
Blues have been hedging their bets and are considering other candidates. Carson Yeung and his associates have no say in the process, by the way.
David Sullivan may have been mocked for targeting Marcello Lippi and Martin Jol, but his philosophy is that if you don't ask, you don't get.
He has also another big name up his sleeve from what I gather, but Luiz Felipe Scolari went cold once the England job became available.
Alex McLeish is a very strong contender, and Harry Redknapp has been sounded out. Mark Hughes has been seriously considered, and feelers put out, but it has been accepted that he is a long, long shot.
Shame. Imagine all the aggro a move for him might have caused!
Sullivan has spoken publicly about the need for a quick appointment, within 10 days.
So if the Blues board draw more blanks, then it could all hinge on the man in possession - Black.
And that brings me back to the players.
A rousing performance by them on Saturday, and a receptive crowd, could get Black's mind whirring and concentrate those of the board.

ooops
Wrong again Colin :-)
Have you any ideas, slightly diverting, on just what exactly the Far East End of the take-over, have not received from Blues? And do you think this is causing any delay?
