TRAGEDY could have visited when Victoria McKenna went into labour while alone and gave birth to a baby who was not breathing.
But calmness, strength of character, know-how and a little bit of luck ensured that Victoria can now cuddle a healthy baby boy called Lewis.
Victoria, a psychiatric nurse, dialled 999 when she began to give birth in the bathroom of her home in Erdington.
The call was answered by trainee emergency operator Danielle Byng, who guided her through the procedure and explained how resuscitate the baby when he arrived not breathing.
By that time, fortune had intervened and Victoria's brother's girlfriend Sophie Stevens was there to lend a hand.
The three women coped admirably with a crisis that could so easily have ended in heartbreak.
We applaud them all and send out heartiest congratulations to Victoria on the – very unusual – birth of her son.
