WE ARE very disappointed with the way Heartlands Hospital does not feel able to provide clarity over the death of a teenager in its care.
The Birmingham Mail is a responsible newspaper of record. We do not seek to cause problems or embarrassment for no good reason.
This is an unexplained death which involves the suspension of a nurse and the investigation of five others.
We would be failing in our duty to local people if we did not seek answers to questions about exactly what has gone on.
What on earth must the family of the 15-year-old girl who died and the parents of other teenagers being treated in hospital now feel?
Silence breeds rumours which result in fear. That is unhealthy.
It is vital clear explanations are given by the hospital so that we can have confidence in a service which is responsible for saving lives.
If there are lessons to be learned let us learn them together. We are not a closed society.
Indeed, this country's very foundations are based on freedom of speech.
This newspaper will not accept a lack of answers from those at the Heart of England Foundation Trust.
Today's story about Birmingham coroner Aidan Cotter deciding whether to hold an inquest into the teenager's death at Heartlands does not signal the end of our investigation.
Hospitals are public organisations funded by public money and people have a right to know what is going on.
This is the third time in as many months that the spotlight has been turned on Heartlands over alleged errors.
We will continue to press for answers until we know every detail about what has gone on.
It is our duty to explain to local people what may have gone wrong and reassure the public that everything is being done to make sure any mistakes do not happen again.
Come on Heartlands Hospital director Lisa Dunn – start talking.

leave this story alone, when the inquest comes you will have your story. think of the family having to see this in the papers, nothing good will come of this untill there is a full story, there is no point in you reporting bits and pieces. this breeds even more rumours than silence will.
