Pocketing our money

THE £11,344 that went into benefit cheat June McIntyre's purse was our money.

It was money that the State had collected for those genuinely in need.

McIntyre, 40, from Weoley Castle, had the good sense to plead guilty to charges of cheating the public revenue and dishonestly failing to declare a change of circumstances.

Let the suspended six-month jail sentence that was handed out to her at Birmingham Crown Court act as a warning to other who may be tempted to pocket public money that is not theirs.

Investigators are ready to track you down and put you in the dock.

If a sense of right and wrong does not deter you, then perhaps the risk of shame and punishment will.
