Happy ending?

BROAD Street's legions of fun-seekers could soon be rubbing scantily-clad shoulders with an altogether more serious set...bookworms.

An area just off Centenary Square has been earmarked as the site for Birmingham's long-awaited new Central Library.

We are delighted that after years of indecision, the city council finally seems to have drawn up firm plans.

Paradise Forum and the current Central Library are a mess – a throwback to the sort of 1960s architecture that gave town planners a bad name.

A city such as this needs a functional, up-to-date and welcoming library.

Fingers crossed we will soon get just that.

Collingwood:

Paul, I'm all for more lap dancing bars, not a bloomin library - start a Mail campaign

A1 Girl:

Close all the lap-dancing clubs down, and me, my friends and our hard earned money might come back to nights out in Broad St.

It's all gone fat too cheap and tacky

Collingwood:

You don't have to visit them though do you?
