Yet funding is so tight hospital bosses say they can only dream of providing the number of life-saving volumetric infusion pumps they need.
The gadget will become even more vital when its new burns unit opens this autumn.
Because it can administer minuscule doses of drugs and fluids which badly burnt youngsters need to survive.
Nurses say the results can be so dramatic they have literally watched as the colour has returned to tiny, lifeless, bodies.
That is why today the Birmingham Mail is launching a campaign to help the hospital buy more.

It's reputation for excellence and ground-breaking results is so great that hospitals around the country send their young patients for specialist treatment.
It doesn't matter how much or little you can afford to give because it won't take millions to make a difference.
Nurses say just eight pumps will be enough to provide one for every child who needs one.

more lives like Mohammed Hasnin's.
