Match abandoned. A very poor advert for county championship cricket is therefore put mercifully to bed.
This blog will contain regular updates from the Friends Provident Trophy semi-final against Hampshire at Southampton on Wednesday. That should be a cracker. Certainly better than watching today's wretched offering.
Although hanging by your ankles from a canal bridge in winter having your face pecked by enraged mallards would be more fun than watching today's offering.

I took a hat-trick yesterday...
of dropped catches off my bowling.
And the first of those spills saw a covering fielder mop up the loose ball and enthusiastically throw the ball in over the wicketkeeper's head for four overthrows.
Of course the stats just say 1-0-9-0 ...
(And the guilty fielders didn't even club together to buy a jug afterwards)

Hard luck Heathen. But not as hard luck as when I had my trial for Warwickshire in 1981 and had to bowl in Keith Maguire's training-shoes which were five sizes too small.
But for that I could've been a contender...

I don't know about enraged mallards, but I was chased by two swans while walking the dog last night.

Careful of those swans, Derek. Dangerous, volatile creatures. Just ask my brother.

Wasn't Mike Brearley known as Lord Mallard?
