Brum: the place to be

FLAMING June may have been a damp squib, but the recent gloomy weather did not cast a cloud over another cracking weekend here in Birmingham.

The National Exhibition Centre once again proved it has no rivals when it comes to hosting major events.

Around 130,000 people flocked to the BBC Gardeners’ World Live, Good Homes Live and Good Food Summer Festival.

The organisers say another 10,000 people would probably have attended had the weather been kinder.

But this city's easy-to-reach location and the NEC's fabulous facilities - plus its knack of attracting events that people want to attend - ensured that the four days of fun were still a massive success.

And they were not the only show in town because, across at the Edgbaston Priory Club, the world's best female tennis players were battling in the DFS tournament in front of large crowds.

Brum sure is putting itself on the map as the place to be.
