DRIVERS cuss about the location of many speed cameras, claiming they are there simply to raise revenue rather than save lives.
But few people would raise a word against the siting of a new camera in Watery Lane Middleway, Bordesley.
The dual carriageway is frequently used by young petrol-heads who attract crowds up to 1,000 strong as they race their high-performance cars and perform stunts.
Not only do these fools endanger their own safety and that of spectators - they also pose a risk to ordinary road-users trundling through Bordesley.
What a pity, therefore, that the camera erected on Watery Lane by the West Midlands Casualty Reduction Partnership cannot be used because, situated behind a giant road sign, it is not visible for the stipulated 60 metres.
What guidance was given by the Partnership to the workmen who installed the camera is unknown.
But this much is clear: this blunder could cost lives and needs sorting out as quickly as possible.
If speed cameras are needed anywhere, it is at sites such as this.

Now that we have digital cameras do any documentary photographers still use film?
