You WILL be heard

THEY are not among Birmingham's movers and shakers, but just ordinary Brummies who care passionately about their city.

And that is why their voices deserve to be heard and why this newspaper is determined to ensure that happens.

Nearly 70 delegates travelled from across the city for last night's meeting of the Birmingham Association of Neighbourhood Forums to discuss the Birmingham Mail's campaign for a referendum on the issue of an elected mayor.

Thousands of people have already signed our petition demanding that Birmingham's citizens should be given the right to decide how Brum is governed.

Political and business leaders have also spoken out in favour of giving the people the chance to decide.

And the overwhelming majority at last night's meeting were also in favour of a referendum.
Increasingly the council leaders look isolated as they close their ears to the mounting clamour for a vote on this crucial issue.

Coun Mike Whitby and his team should realise that this is not a matter that is going to go away.

The people of this city WILL have their say.
