Protect the unborn

SEVEN months into her pregnancy, Sarah Hunt had yet to cuddle the child she was carrying.

She did not get the chance because she was mown down by a hit-and-run driver.

Her nine-year-old son Kieran also perished when Raja Ibrer Faisel sped through a read light and ploughed into them, dragging Sarah's body under his car for 350 metres.

So did Sarah's unborn infant, robbed of the chance of life just weeks before he was due to be born.

It cannot be right that Faisel was charged only in connection with the deaths of Sarah and Kieran when his actions undoubtedly ended the life of a third human being.

Sarah's family are right to campaign for the law to be changed so those who kill unborn children can be charged.

Nothing will compensate for the dreadful loss of three lives on the Coventry Road in October last year.

But perhaps tougher laws will help prevent further tragedies.
