What a sauce

BACON butties will never taste the same again after production of HP Sauce switches from Birmingham to Holland on Thursday. At least, not here in its spiritual home.

American-owned Heinz says that the historic recipe will stay the same and claims that the condiment's flavour will remain unaffected by the move.

But all Brummies know, in their hearts, that they will not be able to dollop the sauce on to their sarnies and fry-ups with the same pride they could muster when it was made at Aston Cross.

And they will be angered by today's revelation that the company has already begun shipping gallons of HP Sauce to Holland so it can be bottled and sent back to Britain.

Shame on the besuited number-crunchers at Heinz for believing that tradition and loyalty do not matter.

RIP a great Brummie tradition.
