Let the electorate vote

THE issue of how this city is governed will not go away.

Local Government Minister Phil Woolas yesterday stepped into the controversy when he visited Birmingham and said it was fair to ask voters whether they want an elected mayor.

That is what the Birmingham Mail has been saying - that a voters should decide in a referendum whether they want the present cabinet system to endure or want to elect a powerful mayor to run things.
Either the council should voluntarily hold such a referendum or the Birmingham Mail will launch a petition to enable the public to decide.

As with any Big Debate in this city, we will continue to champion YOUR right to have YOUR say on matters that impact on YOUR lives.
