IS this really the way to cut rail congestion?
Former Erdington MP Robin Corbett has suggested that limiting the amount of people who can travel on trains is the way to reduce the overcrowding on rail services.
And here were we thinking Ronnie was the only joker in the Corbett family.
We limit the number of people who can travel by bus and we don't allow people to stand on aeroplanes, so why can't we limit people travelling by train to those who bought tickets at least the day before the journey? - Robin Corbett
Why does it always seem that it's only the public who can see the common sense solution to problems while politicians come up with a range of ludicrous suggestions?
Public transport should be just that - public.
Reducing capacity with such a cuckoo scheme would merely force up prices and push more of us off the railways.If we start telling people they can only travel if they have booked in advance, we might as well close the train lines and tell everyone to go and buy a car.
Is it any wonder we look a bit sceptical when politicians tell us they're all for green policies?
